5 Simple Steps to Squash your Reward Habit
Step 1: Ask yourself what are my rewards and treats which are not food or drink related? Finding it hard, it's no surprise, your brain has probably not thoughts of rewards and treats in this way for a while.
Step 2: Next think about 6 new ways to reward or treat yourself which are not food/drink related. Pick things which are realistic in terms of money and time, pick things which you'll enjoy. Some examples may be, taking a lovely bath, spending 15mins playing with the kids, going for a walk, picking a song to listen to etc. It can be anything.
Step 3: Take time to notice when you need a treat/reward. Notice those times when you said in the past I deserve x......and choose one of the new options to do instead.
Step 4: Whilst completing the new treat/reward take time to remind yourself why you've deserved it and its important you take time to enjoy it.
Step 5: Repetition is the key to creating a new habit, repeat these steps every time and your brain will soon create a strong link between needing a treat/reward and doing the new action instead.
