I just wanted to let all those suffering with anxiety know that you are not alone. It's estimated that 5% of the UK population suffer from some form of anxiety. That's a whopping 3,150,000 people!!!!!
And that figure only includes people who admit they're having problems, so I presume the actual figure is probably even more.
Just think about this. Part of dealing with anxiety is facing your fears and the only way of doing this is to be as strong as you can, if you're doing this then so is everyone else. All these seemingly strong people walking around, secretly suffering just like you.
So next time you wonder why everyone else seems normal and you're the only one who's feeling 'stupid' just think when you're out and about you look on the outside like one of those normal ones too.
Now I'm pretty sure you're not going to walk the streets announcing to the world that you suffer from anxiety but its soothing to know that even though you might not notice, there are plenty of others doing and feeling exactly the same as you.
By the way I don't think you're being 'stupid' at all, I truly believe that everyone's brain does what it thinks is best in any given situation. There will be lots of reasons and pieces of evidence which has led your brain to think this is the best way to deal with these situations. Your brain is an amazing and resourceful piece of kit but ultimately it is yours and therefore you are in control, you just need to learn new ways of coping.
I hope this post brings you some comfort.
Until next time.
